Playground Safety Rules

Outdoors – use all equipment as intended safely.
Swings
NO swinging double
NO standing in swings
NO jumping out of swings
NO tag games or running around swing area
NO throwing swings over bars to make it higher

Slide
One correct way to go up; one correct way to go down
NO running up or down slide
NO sliding down poles
NO jumping from slide
NO changing places at the top of slide ladder

 

Softball Field
The catcher always wears a mask when a wooden or aluminum bat is used.
Helmets are to used when a hard type ball is used.
All members of the batting team except batter are to be behind the screen area.
When playing softball in an area where there is no screen, all members of batting team except batter are to be at least 30 ft. away.  There will be a designated area for the next batter to warm up (1 only).  All others will stay out of this designated area.  NO baseballs are to be brought to school or used on the playground.

 

Others
NO wrestling
NO fighting
NO sword fights with sticks, etc.
NO judo or kicking with the feet

Soccer
To be played under the supervision of a teacher.

If you need to use the rest room and you are outside, check with the supervisors.

Indoors
NO screaming, use indoor voice
NO kicking of any type balls
NO running or tag games
NO throwing balls at each other
NO hockey games
Basketball games only when space is available
Bathrooms are not visiting area.  Use rest room and get out.

 

Equipment
No gym equipment is to be used during recess. Teachers have their own classroom playground equipment.

Supervision--Students will abide by the above listed rules and any other directions given by the teacher (supervisor) in charge.

FIRE AND TORNADO DRILLS

There will be regular disaster and storm warning drills, as well as a regular fire drill and evacuation practices held during the school year.

 

 

TORNADO AND STORM WARNING PROCEDURES
There will be regular tornado and storm warning drills held in our school.  The following are regulations set up for safely carrying out these drills.

  1. A series of intermittent rings of the school bell will be the signal of a storm or tornado. A long ring of the regular classroom bell, after a period of silence will be the signal for returning to the classroom other than the trailers.  Trailers will be notified over the intercom of a tornado or an impending storm.  They will also be given the all clear signal over the intercom.    

2.  Teachers must discuss thoroughly with their pupils how to act during the drill.
3.  Each teacher should discuss the drill plan with his/her students in preparation for the real thing.
4.  The signal for a tornado or storm watch will be that all staff members will be alerted that a storm watch is in effect, and in turn should prepare students for a storm or tornado warning.

5.  Procedure to follow for a storm warning:

    Room 112 should assume proper kneeling position along the south classroom wall.

    Room 115 will cross the hall to Room 118 where all students will assume proper kneeling position  along the south classroom wall.

    Room 109 will cross the hall to Room 112 where all students will assume proper kneeling position along south classroom wall.

    Room 114 will assume proper kneeling position along south classroom wall.

    Room 111 will cross the hall to Room 114 where all students will assume proper kneeling position along south classroom wall.

    Room 105 will cross the hall to the girls bathroom and assume proper position along South bathroom wall.

    Room 118 will assume proper kneeling position along the south classroom wall.

   Room 107 will cross the hall to Room 110, and will assume the proper kneeling
position along the south classroom  wall.

   Rooms 125, 126, 127, & 128 will assume proper position along the south hallway next to their rooms.

LIBRARY, COMPUTER, AND COUNSELOR (Rooms 133 & 131) classes will          proceed from their classrooms to the boy’s restroom next to the library.

   Room 137 will cross the hall to the Room 136 and assume proper position along the south classroom wall.

   Room 134 will go to the hallway between kitchen and storage room and assume        proper position  along walls.

   GYM classes will proceed to the south wall of the gym and assume the proper position under or near the basketball goal. If outside, gym classes will proceed to the concrete slab and assume the proper position along the south wall. 

  Room 136 class will assume proper position along south classroom wall.

  Room 102 will assume proper kneeling position along south classroom wall.

 

 

EARTHQUAKE PROCEDURES
Signal for earthquake and all clear will be announced over the intercom. 

Students shall assume storm and tornado position under desks or tables.  When shaking has stopped teachers should lead students through the same exits and to areas as in their fire and evacuation plan.
(If evacuation exit is blocked, use next closest exit and be aware of things that are in the way that may cause harm to the student.  Please explain to students.)
If students are outside during an earthquake, move to an open space away from the building, trees, overhead power lines, and playground goals and equipment.  They should lie down or crouch to the ground and be looking around to be aware to dangers that may demand movement.

FIRE EXIT AND EVACUATION PROCEDURES

There shall be regular fire drill and evacuation practices held in our school.  The following regulations are set up for safely carrying out these drills.

1.  A continuous ringing of the fire alarm or regular bell will be the signal for clearing the building and the trailers will be notified over the intercom.

A long ringing of the regular classroom bell, after a period of silence, will be the
signal for returning to the building and trailers.

3.  Teachers must discuss thoroughly with their pupils how to act during the drill and
other phases of evacuation and emergency preparedness.

4.  NO GROUP should remain on the drive in the path of approaching equipment.  The roadway should be left open.

5.  The teacher should take his/her roll book and IMMEDIATELY check his/her group of students upon reaching the playground.  Should a child be missing, leave your group under the supervision of your nearest neighbor teacher and seek out the principal or fireman and inform them of that fact.

6.  Each teacher should discuss the fire drill and evacuation plan with his/her students and  participate in the conducting of several practice drills yearly with the entire school.

7.  Procedure to follow for evacuation of building:

        Rooms 110, 112, 114 & 118 shall leave the building by walking along the north wall to the east exit and proceeding to the east playground.

    Rooms 115, 111 & 109 shall leave the building by walking along the south wall to the east exit and proceeding to the east playground.

    Rooms 107 & 105 shall leave the building by walking along the south wall to the west exit, turning left, and proceeding to the south playground.

    Rooms 101 & 102 shall exit the building through the west exit door and proceed to the south playground.

    Rooms 136 & 137 shall move through the gym to the east exit and proceed to the east  playground.       

    P.E. Classes shall move to and through the gym to the east gym exit and proceed to the east playground.                   

                Rooms 125, 126, 127, & 128 shall leave the building through the east exit door and proceed to the swing area.

Rooms 129, 130, 131, 132, & 133 shall leave the building through the south exit door and proceed to the south playground.

    Rooms 134 & 135 shall exit through the south hall door, then out through
the left front door, and proceed to the south playground.


EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER shall exit through the east door and proceed to the  playground.

 

 

INTRUDER PLAN

If an unwanted individual enters the school, the following procedures will be followed:

  1. A call will be made over the intercom: Code RED followed by 3 short rings of the school bell.
  2. At the code red signal all teachers are to lock their doors and keep students away from the windows.
  3. If you have your students outside, take to the nearest trailer or the gym to be locked in.
  4. The janitorial staff will lock all exit doors.
  5. Stay in your rooms until a verbal all clear comes from the office.

The superintendent will make the intercom call. In his absence, the office staff will make the decision and call, with the designated person being next in line to make the decision if the office staff is unavailable.
